The Surgery Department at Al-Zahraa College of Medicine, University of Basra, held an important meeting attended by the Dean of Al-Zahraa College of Medicine, Professor Mazen Hawaaz Abdulredha, the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Jawad Ramadan, and the Associate Dean for Administrative Affairs, Professor Dr. Haitham Hussein Ali, along with the heads and members of the Departments of Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Pediatrics.
The meeting discussed the curriculum for the sixth year, with the division of the academic schedule and the allocation of days dedicated to clinical training in various teaching hospitals. Discussions focused on the necessity of coordinating academic schedules to ensure that students make the most of the time allotted for practical training and are appropriately distributed across hospitals to guarantee a comprehensive educational experience.
The attendees also reviewed the recent comprehensive surgery exam conducted for the sixth-year students, evaluating the students' performance, identifying strengths, and pinpointing areas needing improvement. Dr. Jawad Ramadan praised the efforts of both faculty and students, emphasizing the importance of comprehensive exams in enhancing academic performance and guiding students towards academic excellence.
The participants stressed the need to strengthen cooperation among the various departments to provide the highest level of medical education. They underscored the importance of utilizing feedback from students and faculty to improve future academic programs. At the conclusion of the meeting, there was an agreement to follow up on the implementation of the academic plans and to hold regular meetings to review progress and achieve educational goals.
