The scientific plan of the Internal Medicine Department

Objectives:

The department of Internal Medicine at Al-Zahra College of Medicine, University of Basra, aims to prepare students for their future role as responsible doctors and custodians of people’s lives and health, scientifically and morally, through:

1. Training students on basic clinical skills, which represent the basic element in patient care and providing health services to them, which includes introducing students to ways of communicating with patients, taking medical history, clinical examination, and mapping out a possible diagnosis and treatment plan.

2. Providing students with theoretical and medical scientific knowledge specialized in internal medicine diseases, which represents a large and important part of the study of clinical medicine.

3. Assisting students in developing personal capabilities that enable them to acquire information and use clinical expertise in diagnosing and treating various pathological cases, especially emergency and critical cases, in a manner that ensures patient safety and optimal care, as well as preserving the patient's dignity and privacy.

Vision:

1. Developing the health care in Iraq by providing a standard model for health services and introducing the characteristics and qualifications of the clinician based on international and local standards that guarantee patient safety and rights.

2. Using modern clinical medical curricula and teaching methods to ensure a high level of teaching and knowledge acquisition by students.

3. Developing clinical research and make it an essential pillar in the medical study and to adopt its application at all levels.

 The message:

1. Preparing generations of doctors who are capable and able to perform their duties in health care to the fullest extent and in line with international standards.

2. Providing undergraduate and postgraduate studies programs that provide modern theoretical and applied clinical and medical sciences in a manner that is commensurate with the international level in all specialties of general and precise medicine.

 

3. Adopting and applying modern methods and standards globally in teaching students to ensure an equivalent level and parallel to the requirements of preparing doctors globally.
