“Pediatric Life Support” Course at Al-Zahraa College of Medicine: A Pioneering Step Toward Enhancing Medical Students’ Competence

As part of its continuous efforts to elevate the academic and professional standards of its students, Al-Zahraa College of Medicine – University of Basrah organized a specialized training course titled “Advanced Pediatric Life Support” (IPLS – International Pediatric Life Support). The course targeted sixth-year medical students and was conducted in alignment with academic accreditation requirements and preparation for the medical job market.

Course Objectives

The course aimed to:
- Strengthen students’ skills in managing pediatric emergency cases.
- Train them in advanced pediatric cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques.
- Empower them to make quick and effective decisions in emergency settings.
- Prepare them to face real-life challenges in hospitals and healthcare centers.

 Lecturers and Supervisors

The course was led by a distinguished group of pediatric specialists:
- Assistant Professor Dr. Jawad Ramadan – Dean of Al-Zahraa College of Medicine, who provided full administrative and academic support to ensure the course’s success.
- Dr. Rehab Abdulwahab Jaafar – Head of the Pediatrics Department, who contributed to the scientific content and supervised the practical aspects.
- Dr. Tharaa Kazem Jaafar – A skilled faculty member in the department, who trained students in both basic and advanced clinical skills.

 Course Content

The course covered several key topics, including:
- Assessment of critical pediatric conditions.
- Pediatric and infant CPR procedures.
- Airway management and oxygen delivery.
- Handling trauma and seizure cases.
- Use of medical tools specific to pediatric life-saving interventions.

 Certificates of Participation

At the conclusion of the course, all participants received certificates confirming their successful completion of the training. These certificates enhance their eligibility for future specialized programs and boost their confidence in managing critical cases.
