Dr. Qutaiba Muslim Dawood, a faculty member at Al-Zahraa College of Medicine, University of Basrah, participated as a member of the committee for the defense of the Master's thesis presented by student Zainab Adel Ali at the College of Medicine, University of Basrah. The thesis discussed the neurophysiological evaluation of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy in adult patients with hematologic malignancies.

The thesis aimed to assess the prevalence of peripheral neuropathy among adult patients with hematologic malignancies in Basrah who had undergone chemotherapy. The study used nerve and muscle conduction studies to determine the neurophysiological changes associated with this condition.

The study confirmed that chemotherapy increases the risk of neuropathy, with sensory peripheral neuropathy being the most common type among patients, followed by mixed sensorimotor neuropathy. The study recommended the importance of conducting electrophysiological diagnostic tests for the peripheral nervous system before and during chemotherapy to reduce side effects and raise patient awareness about peripheral nervous system issues.
