The Department of Biochemistry is one of the clinical departments that was established in the same academic year of Al-Zahraa College of Medicine Foundation in 2017. Initially, the department was based in the College of Medicine in Basra until 2019 and from 2019 to the present day, the Department of Biochemistry was established on the campus of Bab Al-Zubair Colleges. Where the main building of the Faculty of Medicine is located.

The vision of the Department of Biochemistry is to be a recognized and distinguished unit in the field of Biochemistry and Clinical Biochemistry in Basra and Iraq as a whole, by providing excellent educational skills to medical students.

Mission

The main function of the Department of Biochemistry is:
1. Teaching biochemistry and clinical biochemistry for undergraduate students.
2. The participation of the department's employees in the research and advisory work of other departments in the College of Medicine.
3. The department has research activities that contribute to solving common health problems in our regions and providing biochemical knowledge that enhances these types of research in Basra and Iraq in general.
