The Department of Internal Medicine was established in 2022 after the establishment of Al-Zahra College of Medicine in 2017 at the University of Basrah.

The Department of Internal Medicine believes that all adult patients have the right to a healthy life, both physically and mentally, and to receive the best health care.

Teaching in the department aims to prepare medical students and empower them scientifically and practically in the field of internal medicine diseases through studying in a scientific environment based on integration and cooperation, and the student to be the main focus in the educational process.

The department also seeks to train students in the scientific research, especially in the topics of chronic, transitional and emergency diseases in order to improve the health status of patients in our society.

The department of Internal Medicine includes a number of highly trained academics and specialist doctors who, in addition to teaching and scientific research, provide health care to Basra Teaching Hospitals.
