Under the patronage of the Honorable President of the University of Basra, Professor Dr. Saad Shaheen Hammadi, and the Honorable Dean of the Al-Zahraa College of Medicine, the respected Professor Dr. Mazen Hawaz Abdel-Rida, the Al-Zahraa College of Medicine - University of Basra held its second evaluation conference (2022-2023) on Sunday, December 24, 2023. The Dean presented his speech. In which he praised the efforts of his scientific and administrative assistants, professors and employees in managing matters during the year and previous years in an exceptional way befitting the strength and sobriety of the University of Basra, and highlighted the future plans to complete the college’s infrastructure projects.
The Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, the respected Professor Dr. Haitham Hussein Ali, presented the most prominent administrative matters and developments. The new topics during the year 2022-2023, the obstacles and the college’s needs for teaching and service staff, in several axes: the financial axis and sources of income, the axis of completed projects and those planned to be implemented in the future, the axis of teachers and employees, proposed solutions to enhance the preparation of teaching and administrative staff, and proposed solutions to solve the problems of the college building.
The Honorable Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Jawad Ramadan, presented the most important scientific achievements of the college from the teaching staff and students, the participation of the teaching staff in seminars and conferences, the participation of the students in several events, including sports, as well as their obtaining multiple awards during this year. He also indicated that the Al-Zahraa College of Medicine received Awarded the ISO Quality Assurance Award. The college obtained laboratory accreditation, and it is the first college in the university to apply the quality system in laboratories and to obtain university orders to do so, under the supervision and efforts of Dr. Firas Muhammad Abdel Qader and his esteemed assistants. The Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs also highlighted the most prominent scientific aspects of the college system and the development of its curricula and the methods and opportunities for learning in it. Al-Zahra College of Medicine distinguishes itself among medical colleges in Iraq.
As well as the excellence, effectiveness and accuracy of the scientific committees in evaluating and measuring formative and summative exams during the academic year and the practical exams that rely on the OSCE method (Objective Structural Clinical Examination) at all educational levels, as well as the excellence and perseverance of the examination committee in the accuracy of its performance in organizing and managing exams and halls. The Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs pointed out the college’s plan to develop a plan to begin graduate studies at the college upon completion of the requirements for opening graduate studies. He also pointed out the small number of teaching staff compared to the number of accepted students and the participation of the teaching staff from the Basra Health Department and their effective contribution to the success of the college’s educational tasks with exceptional efforts.
The Director of the Quality Assurance Department at the University of Basra, the respected Professor Dr. Kazem Abdel-Wahhab, addressed the strengths of the college and praised the struggle of the college and its deanship to make this college a success despite the difficulties. During the conference, he emphasized the strengthening of issues related to evaluating the quality performance of colleges, the most important of which is discussing how to advance the evaluation of the college’s research standards adoption and the importance of preparing a research cadre to support the annual evaluation for the coming years.
