An electrocardiogram workshop delivered by a sixth-year student from Al-Zahraa College of Medicine

As part of the distinguished activities of the students of Al-Zahraa College of Medicine, and under the supervision of the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Jawad Ramadan, the respected Ahmed Harbi Shiaa, one of the sixth year students at Al-Zahraa College of Medicine, delivered an intensive student workshop on electrocardiography (ECG), in the presence of a group of students from the Basra College of Medicine and the College of Medicine. Al-Zahraa. The workshop included presenting the most emergency ECG cases with four intensive axes, starting with the basic rules for reading ECGs using internationally approved methods, as well as addressing cardiac arrhythmia by distinguishing cases of AV block types, atrial and ventricular enlargement, RBBB + LBBB, WPW syndrome, Rhythm abnormalities (AF, VF, SVT, VT) The third axis included the most important acute and common conditions in hospitals, including Acute coronary syndrome (STEMI, NSTEMI, Unstable angina), Ectopic beat, Pulmonary embolism, Acute pericarditis, Electrolyte abnormalities.
The workshop continued with the students discussing real medical cases during practice in the hospital, where he explained how to make a diagnosis by linking the patient’s symptoms to the ECG and how to differentiate according to specific age groups. The lecturer stressed the need for medical students to review the cardiac resuscitation department in hospitals and see the medical cases. Especially since most of them threaten the patient’s life, with exceptional effort and work from the student, indicating the necessity of holding these student workshops for their scientific value and their distinctive impact in spreading science and knowledge.
