Thesis Title:
"Patterns and Short-Term Outcome of Fracture Proximal Femur in Adults"
(Arabic: أنماط والنتائج القصيرة لكسر أعلى عظم الفخذ لدى المرضى الناضجين هيكليًا)
Study Summary:
This study aims to evaluate the prevalence of different patterns of proximal femur fractures and their short-term clinical outcomes within three months of injury in adult patients. The research was conducted in Basrah City from June 1, 2024 to June 1, 2025, and included 104 patients aged over 18 years, all of whom underwent surgical treatment using the PFNA (Proximal Femoral Nail Antirotation) technique.
Key Findings:
- The majority of cases involved patients over the age of 65, predominantly elderly women from low socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Surgical treatment using PFNA demonstrated superior outcomes in terms of reduced complications and improved recovery time.
- Delays in surgery, prolonged operative duration, and inadequate pre-, intra-, and postoperative care were associated with increased complication rates.
Recommendations:
The researcher emphasized the need to strengthen preventive programs, rehabilitation efforts, and quality of healthcare services, particularly for elderly patients, to reduce complications and achieve better clinical outcomes.
This study reflects the ongoing commitment of the College of Medicine – University of Basrah to support applied scientific research that contributes to the advancement of healthcare services and the improvement of patient quality of life in the local community.
